2016 Dash Cam

I have a very basic 2016 F150 extended cab or supercab 2.7L 2wd. Everything basic stock. No big screen above radio, etc.......
I would like to install a dash cam with a rear cam also.
Would mount the camera on the windshield next to the rearview mirror.
Do not know if there are any factory wires anywhere that are already there for it or not that I could tie into.
Besides needing to know how to remove whatever to get power to the camera.....
Would have to also find out how to remove whatever needed to run the camera feed wire from the center of the back window to the front camera.
I also have a 1985 F150 Lariat XLT Supercab long bed 2wd 302 AOD that I have had for 30 plus years that I am adding the same camera package to
so I do not have to learn different camera operating systems. I am just about finished with that one.
I do not have a clue where to even start on the 2016.
BTW I have had the 2016 since October of that year.

Can anyone help?!?!?! :-)

Try Dongar Technologies. I bought an adapter for my dashcam that plugs into the wiring for the rearview mirror. Pretty slick! Not sure if they have anything for rear cams, but I suggest starting there.

All of the dash cams in our vehicles are the Garmin Dash Cam Mini. Garmin makes a little doo-dad that plugs into the OBD-2 port and provides power with a few options like always on, on for 24 hours, etc. It's so small, it tucks in behind the rearview mirror and looks almost OEM.

I found it super easy to tuck the cord up into the ceiling liner and around the door. If I was installing one in the rear window (which is an option), I would just continue around under the liner.

Thanks for the replies but, like I said, I have a basic F150.
No wiring for rear view mirror, etc.
When installed, I do not want to have any wires hanging down or going across the dash, etc.......
Gonna need a constant hot and a hot only with ignition on.
I think I might have the power wires at the dome light but do not know how to access, ..
Do those pop out somehow or do I have to remove the headliner to get access to those wires?
Which I need to at least partially pull down the headliner to run the wires to the camera I want to mount on the top center of the back window.
It would really be awesome if there was a factory wire installed that would go to a camera in the tailgate that I could splice into.....
Right now, I am wondering what unused factory wiring is-are available to use for my installation.
Anyone have any idea???

Did you even bother to go the Dongar Tech website to look at their wiring kits and installation instructions? What about GlueGuy's comment about phishing wires through the headliner and down to the fuse block? As for the tailgate wiring, why don't you bust out a voltmeter and start checking the wiring that's in there? Not many XL trim owners in this forum to tell you exactly how its done, so you might be on your own with this project.

The Garmin thing I mentioned leaves only about 2" of cable going up to the headliner. Otherwise it's completely invisible.

Likewise, if you mounted one in the rear window (back facing), the cable would only show for the first couple inches, where you would tuck the remaining cable into the headliner.

The only "hard" part is pulling off a little of the trim around the door jamb of the front driver's door. Similarly, there is a channel that you can tuck the cable into. Re-install the trim, and it's all invisible.

jake415, did you "even bother" to go to the Dongar website and see that nothing is available for anything past 2019.
Even at that,.. the only thing available for the 2019 is an adaptor for the electric rear view mirror,...which I do not have.
As far as "busting out my voltmeter and checking"....first you have to remove 8 stardrive screws to pull the panel to gain access to the end
of the harness to see if anything is there.
So...to help anyone in the future that reads this, no,... there is nothing there extra that the factory left for a tailgate camera.
Also as far as not many XL trim owners on this forum.....
When I help other people out on other forums on this website, I do not care what they drive, I will respond with any help I can send their way,

And yes, I appreciate Glue Guy's reply.
I was just hunting for a place to start and he was helpful.

It was also to see if anyone else that had done this and what problems they ran into and anything else they found while doing so.
No sense in reinventing the wheel if there is already some helpful info out there.

I only suggested that vendor as a starting point as it worked for me. I did not spend my precious time doing your homework for you, sorry. Maybe someone else has a kit for your truck. I have owned XL trim trucks as well, so I didn't mean that as an insult, its just my observation as a member of this forum for 10+ years there are not many XL owners on this page, and personally, I would not be waiting for one to walk me through this project. Typically XL trucks are void of options for a reason...they are fleet trucks for work. Facts are facts. Personally, I would blaze a new trail on this frontier and bust out my voltmeter and run wiring if needed. But you do you. Good luck with your project.

I did not expect anyone to do any work for me.
I came here for knowledge.
To find out if someone had already done this and what they found out and-or ran into while doing so.
It is you who took it down a completely different path with your attitude.
So, give your bad, lame, worthless advice like Dungar and other comments to someone else.
But you do you. Facts are facts.

Okay Timehunter, whatever you say. In situations such as this, I remind myself that being offended is a choice. When a person insults another, it is actually a reflection of themselves they are sharing. I will honor your choice to be offended. Shalom - Shalom my brother!

Okay guys, this stops. You are both given fair warning. Continue the back and forth, and further action will be taken.
