I hope this is appropriate to post here, but I was wondering if anyone was active on "‘92-96 Ford F-Series OBS Trucks" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/699834556748975/)? It looks quite active and has a lot of members, but my post has been "pending approval" for over a week. Just posting on the long shot that someone here had some insight.

I get that pending approval to the point i quit following it.
I find the FB groups are not as helpful at getting questions answered as this website is. There seems to more keyboard warriors on FB than anywhere else.
I *was* in it until I got booted for telling people they’re on crack for asking the insane prices they are. Honestly a lot of those folks just enjoy being completely degrading and rile people up just for the fun of it and are the reason I usually end up leaving.
I follow the site on FB. There's not much in the way of helpful info for problems there but lots of interesting builds and ideas to look at.
People do ask what I'd say are crazy prices but the are the prices really crazy if people are paying them? I've been doing some light updating on my '96 and have probably spent a couple grand on things nobody would notice. It'd be double that if I was paying someone to do the work.

Well, here’s my take on the crazy price tags. The folks that can afford to pay 49,500 for a 1996 F350, are not the people that are going to use or need that truck for its intended purpose. And I think that’s stupid. It’s not a mint condition mustang, charger, etc. it’s a work horse and I think the intention being the price is stupid, and paying that much for a garage kept truck is more stupid. I guess I’m thinking too practically.

It's a big world and everyone likes something different. When I think about buying another OBS I look at the guys asking $30k for a nice sub 200k truck and think that's crazy but I could just drive it and enjoy it. Then I look at the ones for $6-12k and think of the work I could do on it to get it where I'd want it. Unfortunately I fall in the later group so always spend more time working on things than using them. I do enjoy the working on part though.
The majority of trucks sold now are for looks not work. I've got a 2025 F250 Lariat PS we use for trips and occasionally haul with and a 2019 F350 STX single wheel gasser that gets beat to death on the ranch. When I bought the '19 rigged out to feed with everyone gave me hell about buying a new truck for ranch work. Head scratcher to me, I thought we were supposed to work these trucks to make them pay.

Thats pretty spot on. It’s a status symbol more than a tool these days.

Another deal is I get ask all the time why we don't put wheels, mud tires, and a lift or level kit on the '25 F250. All that stuff looks really good and it's tempting but also defeats the purpose of that truck for us. We bought it to ride nice on long trips and haul with. It gets 21 mpg rides great and doesn't have the Carolina squat when pulling the goosenecks.
If anyone gets a chance check out SlaterTrouts '97 OBS build on Instagram. Nice clean build without going over the top. One of the nicest I've seen. It's a $40-50k truck without $40k in it
It's nice to have the buyers out there because if we're being honest, people put that kind of money into those builds in the first place over the course of years. Without them none of that could be recovered at sell time.
Today someone on the FB page posted a CCSB PS 4x4 F250 with 68k miles on it. Looked brand new but wanted like $75k that's a little excessive to me but maybe they'll get it. 🤔

That’s an interesting take. I understand something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. But that’s taking on the burden of the buyer recovering that value to the seller. Is it really worth that much? Probably not. But some sucker who REALLYYYYYY wants it is silly enough to buy it. 🤷♂️ I think it equates status symbol still.
