I generally stick to the 50s era section, as that’s my favorite, but I have a Super Duty. So, bought my 2000 F-250 CCSB 4x4 from my former employer for $400. It was a 7.3/6 speed truck that had been abused. Engine was shot, and the transmission needed an overhaul with some hard parts replaced. Being me, I had to go a different route. The engine got replaced with a 302 based 331 stroker. The block itself was the only Ford part on the engine, aside from the accessory brackets. Scat rotating assembly, Howard’s Cams solid lifter cam, main girdle, ARP hardware throughout, AFR CNC heads, Scorpion roller rockers, rocker girdles, Victor Jr intake and a 750 CFM carb. Aluminum flywheel, headers, etc. Dyno on engine itself was just over 520 at the flywheel, and I shifted it at 7K when I wasn’t feeling spicy, 8K when I wanted to wake the dead. It wasn’t enough. The 331 got sold to a guy who put it in a little Fox body Mustang. Now, I’m in the process of building a 460 based 521 stroker. Same thing. The block itself is the only Ford part. Kaase P51D heads, Eagle rotating assembly, Howard’s Cams camshaft (hydraulic roller). All the same sort of stuff. Full tilt custom under the hood. I’m switching to electric power steering pump, electric water pump, stripping everything out from under the hood. It’s getting a 2011 Lariat interior, except that the 4 main seating positions are getting heating and cooling added. Basically, every possible option that I can add, I am. Well, that’s about it, and I suppose my introduction to this section of the forum.
This is the 331 that was in the SD. I have more pics, and some video of how it sounded. I will try to get some more posted. I only have pics of the truck currently fully gutted and torn down. Still collecting some parts and pieces for the project.
A built not bought project... Love it! Going to make the 7.3 guys mad though...
That’s okay by me. lol. The goal for the 521 is to see around 700-750 horsepower at the flywheel, all motor. It also has a mission to it. While my youngest son was still in school, him and a few of his friends would come out to watch and learn. They all got bit by the bug of real wrenching in the process. They have expressed frustration with all the glorified YouTube tech crap, and magazine mechanics just throwing some Fast and Furious crap together. I’m doing this full custom build with a majority of off the shelf parts to do as little fabrication as possible. Basically just carefully selected parts that already exist in the retail world, to keep it simple. There’s no reason why someone should have to spend $100K for something that’s unique and fun.
A sample of the paint color I selected for the truck. It’s currently white, which just won’t do. The new color is “Black Meets Kettle” which is a special GM color, but I had my paint contact alter it. The small sample didn’t allow for the addition of the Blue Pearl to the mix, and called for bigger flakes, so I had him increase the Blue Pearl proportion, and use a smaller amount of powder instead of flake. It should pair well with the charcoal and dark grey interior color scheme.
The video clip is from the 331 Stroker that was in the SD. I used 3” exhaust that was merged into a Y shortly in front of the Borla XR1 muffler. It then exited into a 90* elbow to go straight out of the right side.
