Transmission Question

First a little history, My 02 F350, 4X2 when it hit 300 (three hundred) miles the od light flashed on and off / the dealer did a code check and dropped the pan and decided to get a crate new transmission from ford. I pull a 7500 pound tt during the summer months, and I am sure the transmission has adjusted it's shift pressures for that load. Everyone(some) on this site complain that their transmission shift soft....mine SNAPS, from 1st to 2nd, and again from 2nd to Drive, It snaps enough to chirp the rubber at moderate throttle and I have not towed the TT in 3 months. Has Ford changed any internals in replacements over stock or is it just that the computer has adjusted the pressures, if so ...would it not be that the settings should have re-adjusted back to a softer shift pattern by now ? I am now at 5500 miles with no problems and I prefer the snappy shifts
Thanks Dan

Transmission Question

I didn't think transmission shift points, line pressure, etc. were part of the Computers "adaptive stragety". I thought all transmission programming were set parameters.

Transmission Question

The shift points are set for a particular engine RPM. I don't see where the computer would change this parameter.

I'm not a transmission or computer expert, maybe Mark Kovalsky will jump in.

Transmission Question

The shift points to me are the speeds that the transmission shifts. Shift points are based on throttle position and vehicle speed. These do not change.

Shift feel is how hard or soft the transmission shifts. This can adapt on certain models. I think the 4R100 with the gas engines do adapt, starting with about the 2000 model year. Shift pressures will change somewhat to try and keep the shift feel where the calibration engineer wants it to be.

Since yours is shifting hard, something isn't right. It also could be that the transmission that failed had something wrong to cause it to shift too soft, and the new one is how it should be.
