Hello everyone, Im new here and was gifted a 1971 ford f100 with a 240 inline 6 with a manual trans/transfer case.
i have a question for you all. Id like to find a small block V8 to replace the 6 cylinder engine but was wondering if this trans/tranfer case will bolt up to a small block or do i have to find a different trans set up. Now just so you know im not going to do a full resto on this truck at this time, i just want to get it on the road and driving. This truck is far from perfect, i got it from my father in law and it has been sitting for many years, i would say at least 20. I dont even know if the engine is free or not but i still would like to put a small block [just a 302] im not looking for tons of power but just the rumble of a v8 is all i want. Hopefully someone out there will know if it will work.
The 240 has the same bell housing bolt pattern as a 302. You will have to figure out the flywheel and clutch and linkage, also you will need to find some small block engine perches. Read this tech Comparison Photos of Engine Perches - FORDification.com
Your easiest way out if you just want it to run is to find yourself a running 300 I6 it would just bolt in.
I take it that you have a 4wd F-100. What you need for a SBF engine is to use 77.5-79 4wd 351M/400 engine supports with SBF engine mounts. You will have to drill new frame holes. The trans is easy as the Big 6's use the SBF bell housing pattern.
