I believe everyone's reported experiences on this thread.

So why does my 2022 F350 7.3, tapped into the 12+ and gnd on 7 pin at bumper, work just fine charging lipo camper batteries and powering 12v cooler (18 amp load) when engine is on and NO trailer connected?

I haven't done anything to "fool" the truck into thinking a trailer is connected - like resistors etc. And, the dash does not flash the trailer connected message on startup, yet power is there.

I do have an led voltage display and green led power-on indicator (very small current draws) in the truck camper, but does this somehow enable the 12+vdc by showing load to the trailer module?

My guess is Ford is constantly changing parameters on the trailer tow module, maybe even within the same model year.

Yes Black Buzzard, strange, but it's following the same mystery about this problem. Did you buy the truck new and it always worked? Or did you buy it used? If bought used, it might be that someone re-programed the computer or made a change somehow. Thanks

Purchased new from Granger in Iowa. 2022. f350. CC, 8ft bed, xlt. I only started using the 7 pin 12vdc+ about a year ago. Now most of this was with a trailer in tow. But around town with no trailer it still works. I have a small green led that I can see in rear view mirror, that is on when theres 12vdc in the camper.

It could be that you are trying to use a system that was not designed for the amp draw that the spreader needs to operate. I'm not sure what brand spreader you are using weather it's a single or two stage or even if it has a vibrator. So, you could be trying to run up to 3 high amp starting loads on that system, and why it may not work because the module for trailer towing is not allowing the load to possibly damage the system. Like I said in a previous post all the spreader I've had installed on my trucks have run a separate battery cable to the back of the truck via the in-cab controller for the spreader.

Except that the circuit is fused 30 Amps, and my ICECO 12v cooler pulls 5 amps on startup then rapidly drops to 3.5 amps when cycling on......and it works 100%. OP is trying to use an ATV style salt spreader I think? A fully depleted AGM trailer battery might pull 15-20 amps....the truck 7pin charging side is made for this.

So the mystery continues.

Thanks Raymond and Black Buzzard. I am using a Snow Ex SR-210 tailgate spreader. It's not very big so I can't imagine it drawing more power then an F250 can handle. Attached is a picture of the spreader hooked up to my F150. It does not power up with that truck either. I will be using the spreader primarily on the 250 since my plow is on that truck.

I guess you can always buy the wiring harness Snoex part number D6068 or make your own which is probably cheaper. I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, but in order to use it on that truck it might just be what you have to do.
