Unfortunately the exhaust leak on the ‘97 F350 7.3 I just bought is worse than I thought, and needs to be dealt with asap, before I do anything else.
I’ve tried doing a search, as I imagine this has been asked before, but I came up empty. I’m looking for recommendations on what to do for replacements that will be at least as good as OE, hopefully better. I’m not trying to build a 500hp hot rod, but I wouldn’t mind some added power. Or if there’s anything else that I should be doing at the same time (truck already has a stainless down pipe and exhaust).
I’ve seen a bunch of sites selling Dorman manifolds, which I assume aren’t great. I’ve also seen a bunch of bellowed up pipes around. Curious if there are any go-to kits or recommended setups that people like.
I just put in the RiffRaff up pipes, nice quality and not too bad to put in but I did a pedestal swap at the time so it all came out. Do the down pipe while you’re at it, it’ll give you some more space to work with if out of the way.
I've used dormans in gassers and have held up good never tried them in a diesel, but some vatos have used dormans and have had bad luck (cracked) on the 7.3's.
theres other options like headers, haven't seen anyone use them maybe you could be the guinea pig lol
Is the recommendation to resurface them if possible because the OE manifolds are better than what you can get for replacements???
I think part of the reason to resurface stock it also the lack of need for gaskets which will fail. If you have time and money, resurface and refinish with JetHot coating?

I've used gaskets on on plenty 7.3 and never had one failed, trick is to re torque them a xouple times after few heat cycles.
Well, update is that when I crawled underneath to see if I could tell where the exhaust leak was coming from, I discovered that I've got some real good oil leaks going on as well. I'm thinking that my best course of action here is to abandon the plan to do the manifolds and headers with the motor in the truck, and just bite the bullet and pull the motor and take care of everything that needs to be done. Not what I was hoping to do, but I think it's the best long term solution.
Where’s the oil leak coming from? When doing my up/down pipes I noticed my oil cooler leaking so that’s next for me.
Also, when I got my truck at 110k one of the front(?) hex head galley plugs leaked real bad but it was an easy fix in situ.
I recently got manifolds from riff raff. they're stamped with "almar" on them but seem of good quality. I wanted to swap to SD stuff anyway so here I am with SD manifolds on my OBS.
Did you swap in a superduty turbo as well? I assume you mean you did exhaust manifolds and uppipes from a super duty. Did you use early 99 or late 99-03? All passenger manifolds are the same but the drivers side are different and wondering how it fit in the truck. Did you have to beat the firewall?
