E-Brake replacement process

Is it possible to replace E-brake pads, springs,clips without removing the axles shaft? Seems hard to do with it still being in place. 2002 Ford F-250 CCLB, 250,000 miles

You can, but it's probably easier (and maybe cheaper) to do all of it, including backing plates (which requires removing the axles....not a bad idea to replace the axle seals...mine were toast.) You can get new backing plates with all the hardware preinstalled (loaded backing plates) from RockAuto for about $150 each

When you did the work, how long did it take you? Both sides done in one day??

Yes. Took me a day to do both sides. It's not difficult as long as you have the correct tools. You'll need the correct spindle nut socket for your axle, a parking brake cable disconnect tool, and a 3 jaw puller to remove the spindle (it must come off to change the backing plate)

My truck is a 1999 f350SD 7.3DSL Ex Cab 4 x 4

Having not removed the axle shaft.....ever....is it a 4 tooth external socket that enables you to remove the outer bearing seal? Are there 2 bearing per side? Rookie question: Once you pull out the axle shaft, there is an axle nut, bearing and a bearing on the other side of the knuckle? Do I have that right? I need to order new sets for each side of the rear axle as this job has never been done by me and I am the original owner of this 24 year old stallion..:)))

There is only an inner and outter bearing once the lock nut is removed.

Not the best video but watch this to see how it's done

I have seen that video before from TRQ and love that rust bucket. I 'm not sure what was holding that truck together all those years. Seems like the the tires did the glue job. Okay, I see the bearings and seal in the back.

The retainer nut is the 4 pin job. Inner and outer bearings/races only, and 1 seal per side. Once you take the hub bolts off, the axle just slides right out. When you reinstall it, you have to wiggle it a bit to get the splines lined up but it's not a big deal
