Right taillight stopped working

So my 2024 f350 passenger tail light and brake light stopped working. The tail light glass was broken since 2 years ago and lights worked just fine. Now all of a sudden, the lights stopped working. The blind spot detector still works. Does it mean I have to replace the whole assembly or fix some kind of led panel? I have the limited edition so it's all led. If I need to replace, can I do it at home or you guys recommend I take it in to the dealer?

I am looking for YouTube videos of course.

Thanks.

I would let the dealer do a warranty replacement, those things are not self serviceable and quite expensive.

It's a 2024. Assuming it's still under 3/36, why on earth would you do it and pay for it out of pocket?

Sorry, but posts like this make zero sense.

I am sorry I completely forgot to write that I was side swiped 2 years ago and the dealer quoted $4,500 to replace the tail light assembly and the mirror assembly. Both the mirror and the tail light only had broken glass while they were functional for all 2 years.

Moisture intrusion from the broken glass has likely compromised the LED components. I can't see that unit as being repairable by the average owner. I would be on the lookout for a used one. As they're easy to steal, I imagine they're easy to swap out as well.

Replaced both rear LED taillight housings on my 2021 F150 Platinum after cracking both myself.

Took about 2-3 minutes per side, including moving the BLIS sensors from the original housings to the replacements. The housings themselves are not serviceable. You buy the entire assembly, with or without the BLIS sensor.

Only 2 screws holding the housing on the truck (inside tailgate area) and a few holding the BLIS sensor on to the housing.

Found a nice set of takeoffs on fleaBay. Still pricey but US$1,100 less than $US 2000 for the pair.

For an amount like that, I'd have turned it in to the insurance company at the time of the incident. You'll probably be on the hook for it yourself 2 years after the fact.
I would start shopping salvage places.

Yeah that's rough, but since it's 2 years later you're probably on the hook for it yourself now. Should have turned that over to the insurance at the time of the accident.

I'm confused here.

Let me see if I reading this right, you have a 2024 limited super duty, and you can't afford to replace a tail light, for two years plus other safety items such as a mirror.

Am I understanding this correctly?

He drove a brand new $90K truck for 2 years with broken glass (mirror) and broken plastic (taillight housing) until the moisture killed the LEDs or PCB in the taillight housing because he didn't want to spend $4,500 out of pocket or turn it into his insurance company.

He failed to share that this started as a result of (supposedly) someone "side swiping" him until pressed about a warranty claim.

IMHO, the only reasons this typically happens is he didn't HAVE an insurance policy in effect at the time of the accident OR he actually hit someone else's vehicle (or something else) and took off.

If you can't or don't file an insurance claim for ~$5,000, there's more to the story than what's been shared.

I mean some people would just drop the $5k out of pocket because it's one less claim on their insurance, thus keeps their insurance rates lower - long term that could be a win. But MOST people would have a hard time putting down those numbers in one shot. Of course, if someone has high deductibles on their insurance, that $4500 might have been just under the $5k deductible so it would have been a moot point anyway.

Regardless, it looks like OP is going to be on the hook for buying and replacing his tail light assembly himself. This isn't really a warranty claim as the part was damaged in an accident and never fixed, and that damage led to the failure of the component.

I have NEVER seen a $4,500 or $5,000 collision deductible being offered. You'll typically see them from $0 to $2,000, but nowhere near $5,000.

Even so, your premiums are not going to go up $5,000 (combined, and over the few years it's causing an increase) for a $5,000 claim.

Hello all, thank you. My deductible is $1,000. I paid close to 105k with about 40k down. I can afford to pay $4,500. But I don't want to. I want to do it myself. I was going to do it when the side swipe happened. In details (which don't matter), a semi hit my passenger side mirror. The mirror turned all the way back and nothing except one part broke. That part is https://www.ford.com/product/lamp-p4...nId=1209577059. On a different day, I backed my Mercedes gls (140k) into my truck such that the edge of my Mercedes driver side mirror struck the passenger side tail light causing a small hole in the plastic. That part is this https://www.ford.com/product/rear-st...onId=779790603

Both broken parts remained fully functional until a couple days ago when I posted here to get instructions on how to do this myself.

This truck is my toy. I am a software engineer with no ongoing use of the truck. Now I want to play with my toy and am looking for a YouTube video or some other instruction for how to play.

Let me know if posting photos of this will help. I will take a picture after the upcoming weather event is done.

😂

There is A LOT to unpack in your post that is probably best left alone being some excellent engagement and rage bait material.

The 2nd link you posted leads to an axle shaft seal or an engine mount hex nut. not sure if the link was broken or not. You could always go old school electronics engineer route and get a used unit from Ebay and do some heat separation and soldering yourself if getting a new replacement unit is not on your menu. The way I see it, either you try to use used parts to put a functional unit together, or just get a replacement unit and get it over with. The tail light is a piece of critical safety equipment so I would highly recommend just getting it replaced with a new unit, that''s just me though.
