I own a 2000 Ford Ranger manual transmission. This is my problem. It seems to be making a strange high pitch noise when I put it in first or second gear and accelerate. This only happens when I first start it up (engine cold). After a couple of minutes though the noise goes away and doesn't return until I start it back up again after it hasn't been for a while. Any ideas of what it could be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Does it sound like the gears are whining? I had a truck that did that in certain gears once and it turned out that the synchronizers in the transmission were going bad and it made that noise when I was accelerating.
I inspected the noise further and it seems to be coming from the front towards the middle. I guess you could say it sounds like a jet. The pitch of the noise gets higher as I accelerate. Yeah, could be a fan. I just wondering if someone has come across this problem.
I have a 2000 3.0 manual transmission, and I too have recently heard a similar high-pitched noise. Mine seems to happen after the truck has warmed up a little but not fully warm. At first I thought it was some weird interference from my radio. When you say that it was the fan clutch, what did you do to adress it? Thanks
