I have a 1986 cclb dually f350 2wd. The steering is pretty bad and, for example i have the 10.25 sterling axle and a wheel hub seal went out. I had a hell of a time finding 2 of them and they were crazy expensive, don’t know if that was my fault or if those rears don’t have many parts available. but I want to 4wd swap it and i have a cummins to swap into it. the steering is also awful so my solution is to swap it to a newer frame. are there kits for the body and bed to mount to a superduty? i figure those axles would be easier to find parts for and the steering would be nicer. also don’t have to figure out how to 4wd swap mine. any thoughts?
Sorry to say as far as I know there is no such thing as a body from maker "A" fitting frame from maker "B" it is all on the person doing the swap.
If I was doing this I would look for a Dodge frame that came with the 6BT motor that you have, got transmission & transfer case too? as a 4x4 roller and take measurements of that frame / truck and yours to see just how far off hey are.
I would say you will need to make frame body mounts and remove others, maybe you can reuse them?
That is just to name what would need to be done to the frame / body.
Then you have a totally different fuel system and wiring you would have to deal with.
That is why I say find a roller or a full truck with what you want Diesel, 4x4 that was a roll over but the frame is good.
Do a search on Youtube for frame swaps and dont just look at trucks as older cars, pre 60's? had full frames that people may be doing frame swaps on.
BTW I mounted a 68 Cougar body on the 69 Bronco frame way back in the early 80's. I wanted the body as low as I could so I had to channel it and make frame mounts for the body.
Cougars do not have a frame so it was a job to make the 2 as 1. It did move under its own power, front axle only just to move, before it was sold.
I also did a cab off frame rebuild on my 81 F100 so I do know a little what it takes to do a frame swap.
Good luck

ps one of the TV shows think did a frame swap or maybe it was a 6BT swap into a late 70's 4x4 pickup IIRC It was blue & silver.
I wonder if you've thought about talking to guys at a heavy equipment repair place. Back in the yearly 80's a guy at work who had that background, put a cummings in his 78 truck. He drove that truck for years
If the steering is awful, fix it. These trucks were not built and sold by Ford with awful steering from the factory. They will steer just as good as any later model Ford truck if everything is correct in the front end.
