It appears from the picture that your truck is a 2WD and has power steering, is that correct? If it is a 2WD it has what is know as a steering coupler or rag joint, If it needs replaced it can be a cause of the loose feeling in your steering. It is 3A525 in this diagram. It's the rubber and metal part between your steering gear box and your steering column.
You need to partially remove the gear to replace the rag joint on those older trucks
Have fun, it's a bitchy job
I used to leave the lines hooked up and use blocks and a floor jack to help hold the gear up, while I painstakingly replacing the rag joint
Pull the big long bolts out of the gear that mount it to the frame, and slide it forward and down some
I just remove/loosen the 2 bolts holding the column on and pull it back. Can't tell by the pictures if it failed or/not. Take a pressure washer to clean all the junk off so you can inspect it.
Look at your rag joint while someone moves your steering wheel back and forth to see if that’s where the looseness is.
I’d guess that you probably have a badly worn steering box that is causing your loose and floaty steering.
You can also see that excessive play by looking at the steering box / steering column connection.
