10R80 Issue
I have had an incredible time with this truck. We drove it off the lot brand new! In 2025 I passed 123K miles. Now is when the fun begins. Back in the fall I had an issue with the Variable Valve Timing, but that was an easy fix. Shortly after that however I developed a shudder from the transmission.
And of course if wasn’t repairable. So, $7,500.00 later, I’ve got a new transmission. My question for those of you that have replaced your 10R80, have you been happy with the truck after that swap? Does it perform well enough for you not to consider purchasing a new truck? I do tow a pontoon boat in the warmer months, but it’s only like 3-4 times a year. Other than that, this vehicle isn’t used for crazy hard labor. In fact, IM STILL ON THE ORIGINAL SET OF BRAKES. Seriously, my brakes outlasted my transmission.
Thanks for any insight into my dilemma.
You might ask the shop if that price included an updated CDF drum. If not, you might want to consider getting rid of your truck ASAP.
After a
stealership replaced the 10R80 in the 20 F150 I owned it worked well for 7 months and 18k miles. The transmission started clunking into gear again so I got rid of the truck.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...he-dealer.html

Be aware that there isn't a traditional transmission dipstick either, so you can't easily remove the dipstick to check the condition of the fluid. There is a small dipstick on the passenger's side of the transmission, but it isn't marked like an old style transmission dipstick. You have to follow a service procedure to get the fluid level right.
Here's a thread with info on the 10R140 dipstick (big brother to the 10R80, post#16 for a downloadable file).
