40 in a 32
40 in a 32
doing a restore on this bad boy, before ripping it apart we found the wishbones are hitting the oilpan/bell housing, anyone know of a pan for the 40 that will clear the 32's wishbones ?
Looking through my old parts catalog, it shows the same 59A oil pan being serviced fitting V8 32-48, so presumably the reverse is true, that if you found a correct 32 oil pan, it should fit the later flattie and clear the wishbones. Be sure the pickup works or is correct for the sump.
By the 40's when these catalogs were printed, the 59A pan was the only one Ford sold to use as a replacement back to 32. That doesn't mean it was the same pan as used in 32, just that the pan should work for a 32. It's possible a real 32 pan has a different shape to clear the 'bones. I'm sure the swap's been done a thousand times over the years, but those times pre-date us by 30 years, even in our advanced ages, and we didn't get the memo. lol
Is the pan modifiable to give it the clearance necessary? Is there something different about the mounts, perhaps, that have it fitting or installed slightly different than it should?

used the stock 32 mount brackets which bolted right onto the block and rubbers, in the stock 32 cross member emailed the owner to see if he still had that alloy pan ford used,
won't be the first time parts books were wrong
