Because brake fluid absorbs water (moisture), and it gets in your brake system and destroys it. Water in brake system boils easier than brake fluid, when it heats up, calibers can expand applying pressure. This happened to me with a motorcycle, locked up a front caliber while riding. Dumb on my part in my younger days. At 5yr, 50k, you are ready. Easy to do yourself (with helper) Read up on process, I did mine, didn't know to put in ENG mode, lucky no issues.

I personally do my brake fluid every 2 years or 30,000 miles, which ever is first on all my vehicles.
A pressure pot (looks like a bug sprayer) makes the job quick and easy, but you may need to do the ABS system bleed. Not sure about the new trucks.
