1980 F250 with the inline 6, and I want to upgrade my alternator from a 35A to a 70A. Is it as easy as swapping the alternators out? Or is there more involved? Do I have to mess with the starter solenoid? I’m going to be running dual batteries and an 85A isolator, too, if that helps. I’ve read somewhere that I need to get a bigger charge cable? I’m not sure. Any help is appreciated. TIA

The 70A is still the 1g alt so it should not require much of a change up. Many recommend the 3g upgrade. I (just completed a3g 95A myself) think it is worth the extra effort but your needs may differ from mine. You can find info on that at garysgaragemahal.com look it up under bullnose upgrades.
I would have to ask why the dual batteries and the extra AMP ALT?
The only difference I know of between the 35A and the 70A is the way the wires get hooked up.
One has studs the wires go on and the other a plug on the top.
Because I used the ALT (stud type) from my truck and the harness (plug type) I made jumper wires to make mine work.
