Has anybody successfully used a 16-tooth driven with a 7-tooth drive?
A few supposed 'OEM Combinations" I found:
7-driven with 18/19/20/21 driven
6-driven with 16/17/18/19/20 driven
7/16 is not within that set. A 16-driven will get ripped up and non-functional in just a mile or so. Higher driven gears work fine, and the 16-tooth (CODZ-17271-A, Wine) is the same direction as these.
Perhaps the steel driven gear is less forgiving than plastic?
I might be using that combo. I'd have to take things apart to check, but that appears to be the combo that makes my speedo work correctly according to this calculator.
Why not just try it? 16 tooth gears aren't expensive.
I used the 16 tooth with the stock 7 tooth drive gear to accommodate my 3.54 final drive ratio and 33” tires. Works perfectly. I got the gear from NPD.
