Heading to the Fort Worth Stock show next month and hoping to come home with everything I take with me. Hasn't always happened, so looking for ways to lean things in my favor. Has anyone used something like this to protect their tail lights or tailgate? I'd have never guessed these are hot items to be stolen but I guess they are easier to run off with than an exhaust system. Research shows locking the tailgate does not slow them down since they can pop the latches with it still locked.
That would be ideal. Most people will link or mention a product name to at least give those interested a starting point. But I guess you think that's too much to ask.
I added a similar product to my truck because I often travel to Austin and San Antonio where co-workers have had their tail lights and tailgates stolen.
I have those plates installed. I also changed the taillight and tailgate access cover screws to a theft deterrent torx type head with the pin in the center.
That locked tailgate can be unlocked in 30 seconds by taking the inside panel off.
I just changed the panel hardware and light hardware to anti-theft fasteners I bought at ACE hardware. Most of those taillight thieves will not have the correct bit to remove them.
Locking the tailgate is good if you have a bed cover or camper shell, if you don't have either then you are just slowing the thieves down. They may pass yours up if they cant get to them quickly however, I have a screwdriver kit that has almost every type of screw head made.
I got a set of those Latch Lids a few years ago for Christmas. For the price they seemed a bit flimsy... They had even gotten bent a bit in shipping, but I was able to bend them back so that they would still work. I can't say I would have bought them had they not been given to me as a gift. I hadn't seen that kit linked above, but it looks a little better than the Latch Lids, granted they are more expensive. Although, IIRC, the set of Latch Lids I ended up with was the same price as this one...
