CAMM

This brick nose has a 302 in er I want to put a different cam in! Anybody know a cam that can pass emissions, give good performance and that nasty choppy sound?

Just how strict are they on a 1990 MY?

IMO, you need to find out what they expect and what you think you can get away with. Do they still do a visual and a sniff test?

I thought I read recently where the FED is clamping down on CARB regarding strict enforcement?

You aren’t going to get there with California emissions testing and the factory EFI system.

If this is true, how long do you think this lack of enforcement will last? I suspect about 3 years. Not certain how the Feds can change the laws California has passed.

I don't live in California but I would suspect a visual and a tail pipe check would be the very minimum that would be needed to pass.

Washington State got rid of emissions testing several years ago. They thought the air was clean enough not to warrant the hassle and cost. As an authorized emission tech for the entire length of the program, the program was very lenient. Every government employee wanted to get people back on the road with the least hassle. Sometimes without paying any fees. Only the worst of the worst got hassled. Nothing like I hear from other states.
