That’s crazy.. loyalists to factory parts maybe? I never looked on lmc, I used if used ones were going for that, new ones would be more than I would ever spend. I’ve been watching junkyards, but they have all been torn up.

I'm familiar with Mopars where sometimes you're better off restoring a factory part than trying to make a reproduction fit right.
I'm not really sure we need it. As far as I can tell

LMC also has very expensive and slow freight times
I just looked at sold ebay listings and they've been selling at that price but also less. It makes no sense to me.
I bought a load of parts from Classic Industries recently and they're pretty much the same as far as freight goes. But they had everything in one place and either 10 or 15% off, and it was a big order so I still came out ahead.
I always wonder how they vanish. My dually was lowered when I got it, roll pan, no tailgate...and no spare tire holder. '88 and '92 both have em still
Scored one from a JY, paid maybe $10. I swear some guy on here made one from some scrap angle iron
they can be basically adapted from almost any generation and year or application with similar width and height clearances (back to the late 60s for ford i think through OBS), and gm ones robably are just as useable if they are similar design.
you should look for a swing out spare assembly they are cool
Why are the original ones worth so much more than the reproductions?
Because you're not seeing the ones that sold and junkyards that do list stuff on eBay expect to be customers of body shops who are being paid by insurance so prices get jacked way up. The repro from LMC is fine.
My previous '97 F250HD never came with a spare - or spare tire carrier - when we bought it new. When I asked, the dealer said "You won't want it/need it anyway", and sure enough a spare tire was an option for that truck!!!! Sold it at 125k, never needed one.
Thankfully, my '95 F250 DID, because just ~200mi after buying it in the Tampa area in 2018, the left-front blew on the way home to Ohio ( the tires were dry-rotted 'may-pops' from storage and were going to be replaced when I got home anyway... ) BUT the factory locking spare tire lock was frozen... I ended up 'pretzelizing' the lock with the lug wrench to get the spare off (that had maybe 20psi) and limping it on back-roads to get to a tire store... I bought all-four new tires in Lake City FL.
In my 50+ years of driving and driving probably close to 2-Million miles, I've only need a spare tire three times!

I’ve mounted a spare twice for driving my own vehicle and the one was just to keep car able to be moved while the wheel and tire were sourced and replaced
