adding power steering
thanks for the replies. Jeff
For the record, I too would like to also add PS to my '66 F250, so I have been trying to become educated. In my case I have the Automatic and I want to keep the original steering wheel and column shift. That said, from what I have read, the Bendix box is closer to the size of the original unassisted steering box. Thus, minimal modifications have to be done to the steering column to fit the Bendix box. Likewise, I have read that the Saginaw box is 2+ inches longer and that can interfere with the three on the tree and Automatic shift tube. However, I have also heard that the Saginaw is better quality and more durable, and while I can't comment to the truth of that, it would be something to consider, but I will let someone else chime in on that to confirm or deny.
Point is, there will be lots of thoughts and you will have to decide what is best for you.
I will add... there was, a few months ago, a guy from the bump side forum marketplace, selling a fresh Redhead Saginaw box with everything you would likely need except maybe the pully and pump mounting point for your 240, I thought his price was fair, but after some thought, due to my trucks Automatic, passed and decided to look for a bendix box.
He may have sold it already, but if you have a four on the floor, it might be a reasonable way to go.
Good luck and keep us posted with what you decide to do and take lots of photos.
