I shipped an flathead engine some years ago to Australia. I had the buyer arrange all shippning, He used Overnight Freight which I think was bought by UPS. Before I shipped it the engine had to be completely drained of any fluids and securely fastened down in an enclosed crate. I'm sure any place you find that will ship an engine or transmission will require the same type of packaging.
I've shipped quite a few items using Fastenal freight service. It's pretty painless but you need to deliver it to your nearest Fastenal store and it has to forkliftable. I have also used Uship, the commercial freight site to ship industrial items for my business, that as extremely easy to use. I don't know if it was relatively cheap, I didn't care, my customer was paying and I wanted the item to get there ASAP. With Fastenal it's relatively cheap but could take some time because they ship from one store to another to another. The might not go the most direct route.
Too late for Mbstrand, but it sounds like you're shipping from SoCal anyway. So, if you are in the Sacramento area I have a V-8 shipping crate available for the taking. I would ask that interested parties PM me for pickup. Not in a big hurry to get rid of it, but winter's coming and it could easily be chopped up for kindling. Expand the photo for a closer look. Cart, wheelbarrow and inner fenders not for sale. 😊
Thanks 1956BB..we built a DIY pallet. So final total... $180 for a local mover to haul to Fastenal who's charging $223.00. $400 vs. the previous $1200.00 quote. Thanks guys!!
Hell yes! And my old man got a sweet rebuild. He has been working on Flatties since the 50s and has been jealous of my F1 239. I really appreciate the help and Flathead Brotherhood.
