Bosch is in significantly better shape than stanadyne, PE has picked it pretty clean.
That said if S&S did their homework they should have right of first refusal on the IP of the DCR based pump and could possibly replicate with a contract manufacturer.
I haven't read through all of it, but here is an article on the CP8. I do wonder if Ford will adopt it, or even if it will be backwards compatible, but at this point isn't it just RAM using it... let them work all the bugs out I guess! It will be interesting to see how it does though.

From the article it appears the cost after failure is still going to be high
Quote:
" The entire contaminated fuel system must be addressed. At minimum:Replace all fuel injectors with new units.Replace the common rail.Replace the fuel filter housing and install a new filter.Thoroughly flush all fuel lines with clean diesel.Drain, clean, and flush the fuel tank, or replace it if debris is extensive.Replace any potentially contaminated sensors in the high-pressure circuit.Use fresh, high-quality diesel fuel."
Sure doesn't appear they have the faith in the new pump to warranty a pump swap without doing a full system 😞

If this pump is reliable in the Ram cummins application, it should be a good pump. Reason I say that, the implementation of the CP4.2 pump for the Ram cummins was overdriven and were dropping like flys.

The way they keep pushing up fuel pressures I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually manufactured a little Wankel engine to mount on the front of the block to pump the dang fuel... lol

As long as they make the low pressure side of the pump oil and not fuel lubricated I couldn't care less how they do it.

Bosch installed something similar to the back side of the CP4.2 used on the Duramax to pump fuel into the CP4.2 pump. This worked fine until the filter change and this pump went dry therefore starving the CP4.2 for a bit. That was a bad design.
No I don't think they are at risk of a going concern issue but their majority shareholder is Cerberus, the same group that parted out Chrysler post DC break up. Additionally, they successfully reorg under Chapter 11.
Just for context, stanadyne has produced 46 million injection pumps in almost 75 years..
So there is a significant difference in scale here, that said if S&S played their cards right even if Stanadyne goes toes up they should be able to get their hands on the underlying IP of the pump. Won't be cheap but should allow them to continue production.
