Hello everyone. Just found and joined the site. Been a life long Ford guy. Started out with a 74 Mustang II Mach 1 and 76 Thunderbird, then started buying trucks with a 77 F100 followed by F150's, F350 and an F550. And even a restored 67 Ford 3000 diesel farm tractor.
Currently in the stable is a 1995 Explorer Sport, 2003 Ranger FX4 Level II, 2020 F150 XLT and a 2024 Bronco Sport Badlands.
And my latest play toy. A 1980 L9000 fire truck with 100,000 KM, powered by a 6V92TA Detroit Diesel.
I originally bought it to pull the body off, install a flat bed and haul my antique tractors on it. But so many people seem to be interested in it as a fire truck, so I think I'll just leave it as is for now and take to shows.
welcome to FTE
nice fleet, with many of us loving the sweet sounds a DD makes, as to your ? in the other thread maybe our vin decoder can help you a tad https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/vindecoder.php the windshield rubber
good luck
Thanks Charlie. I tried the VIN decoder but it just said my VIN is invalid? I pretty much know all the specs of the truck, except the rear axle ratio. I do know top speed is 60 MPH at 2100 RPM.
Love the sound of Detroit's 6V engines! I'd have a hard time with yanking the bed off of it too. At least this way you can use the bed for parts/supplies/etc. and tow the tractors on a trailer behind it. Maybe add a gasoline tank with electric pump to refill the tractors with?

Welcome aboard!
That was another option, get a receiver hitch put on the back. It should look good once I get all the aluminum and stainless polished back up.
the sounds of a 2 stroke DD, SWEETNESS esp. the 12v71's
Yes sir! I ran lots of Detroit powered Ford dump trucks, that was another reason I had to have this. Not to mention old collector cars and pickups are priced almost out of this world now, you can get an old fire truck like this for next to nothing, no miles on them, no rust. And that V6 Detroit isn't hard on fuel at all. So it's just like driving a pickup around.
no dumps w dd's for me, drove a few ,mack dumps w endt's plowing snow mostly semis with big cats like the 1693ta's and 3406's some with 8v71's 8v92's 12v71's , tied to 13 spds, boats with twin 71 and 92's a few with twin 12v71's .plus i worked a 2nd job for what used to be bruce gm diesel which is now Atlantic.
so yes Detroit's are spoken in here
Wish I had driven one. I've only watched as a spectator. Started with Gillig Phantoms and Neoplan Transliners, then noticed their song singing from many other large vehicles.
