According to my old Monroe catalog, you will be looking for Monroe part #'s: Magnum 6825, Monroe-matic 2080, or VIP 8032. Listed best to cheapest. Start searching those #'s on eBay.

Before you buy anything, slide under the truck & make sure that the upper shock mounts are not rusted off & broken. It is very common for the upper mount to rust & break, leaving the top of the shock flopping around.

I went with Monroe's lightest duty shocks for my 1976 F-250 4wd because it rides like an old Dodge 1-ton.
And the last thing I wanted was something that might stiffen up the suspension even a tiny little bit.

I think you're right, I got under it today and just posted some pictures. I can see a little rust around the hole and looks like the top of the shock slipped through

I think you got lucky, your mounts are fine, as are the shocks.

What you need are new bushings. You'll remove the nut on the top of the shaft coming out of the shock, remove the washer, what looks like a sleeve, & the lower bushing. Install a new washer & lower bushing, pull the shaft out of the shock so it sticks thru the hole in the frame bracket. Install a bushing on top, washer, then the nut. Tighten the nut, you're done. This is what the new bushing should look like, I don't know if this would work for your application. https://www.ebay.com/itm/40611764221...Bk9SR8auqrvSZg

To get the correct bushings, I'd measure the diameter of the shock shaft & the hole in the frame mount. Go to a good auto parts store, like a NAPA that's been around for 40 years. Tell them you need shock bushings & washers, give them the measurements. Hopefully you get an old guy that knows how to look up parts & they can fix you up.

If you are ambitious you can take the lower bolt out of the shock, remove the shock, & take it to the parts store so they can fit a bushing directly on the shaft.

Get two sets of bushings, the other side will fail soon & need replaced.

Looks like someone did not even put a bushing cup washer on the top side of the bushings, should never have been able to pull through the mounting hole of the mount.

thanks I really appreciate the advice, glad to hear the mounts look fine, it's been raining here but when it dries up I'll get under and triple check. I think I might just go ahead and replace the shocks , rock auto has this set sold as a pair, comes with the bushings and everything I need right? Strut etc it's the whole assembly? It also says they're 'load adjusting' , is that good for these trucks? Sorry for all the questions

I wouldn't use those shocks. They have a spring on them which will make a rough riding truck even worse.

I agree, you do not need those with springs on a '77 250 unless you're gonna be hauling stove wood racked up higher than cab roof.

I recently replaced rears with yellow Monroe 34911 Gas Magnums (34901 were for 4wd rear), just shorter than the ones that have been on it a good 30 years. after lowering the rear to 2wd height.
