Weak start for several years is solved
Swapped the starter relay on fender well. Then upgraded to Interstate batteries. All this over several years.
Lets just say I am a slow learner and bad listener. Sous told me to just spend some money and get some serious upgrades. Anyway I ordered the Powermaster 9051 starter last week. Installed it saturday. Took 3 2 min glow plug starts just to move it in the garage. Hard slow dragging starts had gotten ridiculous.
So install of gear reduction starter was pretty easy with the ole SAE and Metric stubby wrenches. Kobalt sets is what I ended up buying and using 15mm & 11/16 to get r dun.
Let's just say my slacking cheap butt should of started with the upgraded starter. Truck fired off better that it ever has in the 12 yrs I have owned it. Only have a few starts so far but very impressed. Ordered from Summit racing. Great pricevcompared to reman junk from box stores. Super fast shipping.
Next on the list later this week is a Bosch alternator. This morning the truck fired right up at 35 dg with about 30 sec of GPs
Thanks for reading

Be sure to buy from an “authorized dealer”….. PM has had problems with counterfeits sold using their name and look alike packaging😟
We have a couple that have been on mine and my uncle’s race cars for 20(?) years with great results.
Installed one on the 7.3 and the 66 F100 within the last year or so. So much stronger than stock starter.
Only issue I had with the 7.3 install was not having the proper tools to get on the top bolt. I’m glad you had the right tool to make it easy! I’ve since purchased some wobble extensions.
The 66 390 truck required some mods to get it to fit, possibly due to the headers. Thankfully the engine would fire off with little speed because the stock starter was sad. I always cringed a bit when turning the key before. Now it spins over so well.
Congrats on your successful story!
