Two weeks ago I changed out the thermostat as it was stuck open. Appeared to have fixed the problem until last night but now the symptoms are different. Everything was normal until I looked at the scanner and coolant temperature dropped to 164 degrees while oil temperature was at 192. Lasted that way all the way to work. This morning, everything was normal, temperatures were 184/192 then the temperature dropped again to 164. About 30 miles later, temperature went back up to 180 for a few minutes than back down to 164. Oil temperature stayed at a normal figure for the entire drive. I thought it might be sticking open again but when it was stuck open in the past temperature was around 145. Tried searching but couldn't find anything. No apparent coolant loss and no loss of power. Any ideas?
These thermostats are pretty robust, but I guess anything can happen. I would look at the connector and make sure it’s dry not getting oil on it. Check the wiring and the loom it goes into. The sensor itself is not expensive so you could replace that.
