On my home today, started out will both tanks full, I always start drawing from the rear tank after filling both. When the fuel gauge shows 1/4, I flip to the front tank. Well, today as I was motoring along, glancing at gauges, I noticed the fuel gauge was not moving towards ‘E’ at the ‘normal rate’. Figured o crap, the sending unit is dying. 30 miles past the usual area when I switch tanks, I figured I better switch, so I did, and low and behold, the gauge started dropping like a rock(on a full tank), I know I started out with both tanks full. Is it possible the solenoid was allowing fuel to be pulled from both tanks? Apparently, fuel was being drawn from the front(smaller) tank at the same time my toggle switch was flipped for the rear(larger) tank.
Your crossover valve is stuck in the middle if you are truly drawing fuel from both tanks
Ford diesels have a pretty simple crossover valve like the Chevs ran forever
They stick
