Transmission issue

******UPDATE: where the shifter goes in the transmission one of the “gears” were not lined up out of the 3 and I just moved it with a screwdriver and got it lined up and now it shifts with ease into any gear again********

Hello everyone, I am doing my first clutch & flywheel replacement on my 390fe with a NP435 4 speed. And I made sure the pilot bearing was seat good, everything torqued to spec, transmission struggled to go in flush to the bell housing although eventually it went in. But now I put everything back together and I went to do the final step which to me is put the shift lever on the transmission and I come to see that it wiggles like if it was in neural, but does not go into any gear whatsoever and even with the clutch fully pressed in the truck does not want do move. It seems like it’s stuck in gear or something, so now I’m wondering am I screwed with this transmission? Perhaps I messed it up during installation? I don’t know but please I ask for anyone to share what you guys think could be my issue in this case I’d appreciate any advice thank you and have a blessed one.

I don't see any picture. if you don't have it in neutral when you install the shifter it could be in 2 gears at once. line the slots up.

Most likely your pressure plate was not lined up good, or your pilot bearing was undersize from pounding it in. either one will fight you. as long as you didn't pull it in with the bolts you probably didn't mess anything up.

Hello thank you for the reply, I’m not sure why it’s not telling me upload a picture but I did not use the bolts to force the transmission in although I did use my full force to make it go in, but how can I like up the gears again? From my memory I left it in neutral when taking it out but I was moving the splines when the transmission was out.

Before you drop the shifter in, make sure the slots in the sliders are lined up crossways and in neutral.
