fuel gauge broken?

fuel gauge broken?
i have a 96 F250 PSD and my fuel gauge has started going haywire. the needle will come down below the full mark to a 90 degree angle and when im driving the needle will come moving from side to side. Is my needle just broken and i need to get it replaced????
