Remote start
When something is free, you’re the product.
Its shocking how much data manufactures collect from modern cars, and even more disturbing how much they could collect if they were so inclined.
its only a matter of time before insurance companies get on board and the manufactures start feeding them with driving telemetry. Or even law enforcement.
im sure it’ll come in the name of “common sense” safety reform…

The future is now.
If you go into the connectivity menu, there is a checkbox for 'insurance connectivity' (or wording to that effect.)
Further, in the ceiling console, there is a camera and microphone recording you as you drive... with the final product only available to law enforcement, or others so designated.
It's not tin foil hat stuff... it's a bigger question about how much the Government, and others, can intrude into your life.
This is why I asked the question because our new Camry just turned 1 year old and now Toyota wants $25 a month to continue the service to use the remote start.
I deleted both the apps when I sold my Ram truck but I'm pretty sure I could start my wife's Wagoneer in the app.
I don't drive like an idiot, but I do drive for a living. I don't need anyone analyzing my driving habits, and adjusting my insurance rates because of it. Further, I consider it an intrusion of my privacy. You say you don't care what data they collect... how do you know if you don't know what data they are collecting?

This is true. It's not tin foil hat; everything in this vein is done for one reason: control. Starlink, fiber optic expansion, security cameras, smart tv's, vehicle monitoring, it's all done for one thing: control. It's all pointing toward a socio-economic score for individuals and households. Just hide and watch.
I still have a Chrysler Pacifica and we cannot use the app to start without an active Uconnect subscription.
Toyota's connected services — which allows for remote start and locking — is indeed subscription based after a free trial (my Tundra was 3 years, but it might be just one year now), but you can still remote start with the key fob after the trial.

Where exactly is this camera?
I'm married so the only person who can ever get in control of me is already present. If anybody else tries to get in control of me, they'll be sorry. Not sure how many times I have to say IDGAF before some people realize that IDGAF.
I misspoke... my bad. Looking back through the owners manual, it has what is, essentially, a black box... a data recorder for driving parameters They can access after an incident, not unlike an aircraft's data recorder. I read through the manual when I got my truck in 2023, for some reason I had it in my mind it had video and audio as well.
