Map sensor port relocation

I want my map sensor to have its own dedicated port on the intake. I do not have an EGR valve. Would tapping that hole to put a nipple there work? Would being that close to the throttle body throw off the reading? Part of me believes it would, but figured I would ask. It’s a 90 5.0.

What makes you think you need a "dedicated port" for the MAP sensor?

I want one, I don’t necessarily need one. It’s on the tree right now and I would prefer it not have other things pulling the same air.

This falls under the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" category. The same vacuum signal appears at all ports on the vacuum tree or anywhere else you might drill a hole, so moving it won't make any difference. Right next to the TB may or may not create issues but if it does the engine will run worse, there is no scenario where it runs better.

Thats what I was thinking, but wasn’t sure. Most vacuum lines have been removed, so I thought about having the main port dedicated to brake booster and then a separate port for the map sensor. I do a lot of stop and go traffic. My thought was if that would play an effect on the map reading. I haven’t had the computer running during then to see what real time readings were.
It has a megasquirt ecu.

The megasquirt has it's own MAP internal to the ECU if it's a Stinger PimpX & special vac line material (included) that they are adamant using.

Just use the stock vac tree & smallest port available.

There's a local barometric pressure setting in the initial set up as well you must enter.

It’s from DIYautotune. I will look for the local barometric pressure, I was unaware of that in tunerstudio. I used the supplied vacuum hose and I believe it is on the smallest port, I will double check that. Thank you!

Is the Autotune new or used? I thought they had gone out of business and weren't available anymore.

I've used some of their TS doc to expound on my PimpX operation understanding.

If I understand correctly, you want to put a port vacuum nipple in the EGR block off plate?

If so, yes. Any area in the plenum after the throttle body, but before any runners should be manifold pressure.

The best place to put it would be near the middle of all runners in the plenum.
Oh, wait a second, that is where the factory port is, in the middle of all runners, getting a reading from an average of ALL cylinders.

It’s new, they haven’t gone out of business. They actually helped me out with an ac idle up about a month ago. What made you go with pimpx and how do you like it?

It's not been smooth sailing & I've not mastered some issues.

It's got a multitude of features, hook up (for me) simplicity but the instructions & tech support (for me) leave a lot to be desired.

The price for the "adapt what you got EFI control & E40D control was the kicker & it does what it says it'll do in any EEC-IV Ford.

I bought the mustang plug and play ecu they sell. For the most part it was straight forward for installation. Tuning wise, I’m sold this is just an electronic version of a Holley carb haha! I was torn between MS, pimpx and fiveology mass air. I don’t have auto trans which helped a lot. If I did, I wouldn’t have went MS. It’s a learning curve for sure, but I love it. The tech guys have always been super helpful also. It was nice not having to purchase a tuning program in addition to the computer.

my future plan is some sort of forced induction. I like that Ill have full boost control as well with the computer.

The pimp comes with a basic Tuner Studio which is perfectly adequate & I think the upgrade (at the time) was about $50.

The 2 guys who developed the pimp were apparently SVO turbo 4 enthusiasts & it seems that nearly all users (except for us OBS guys) use it for boosted applications.

Which means when we try & follow the online/utube videos they insist on using for instructions nothing matches the naturally aspirated conditions we're trying to solve.

I'm having my personal computer issues (what I tune with) getting a new download out of the USB drive into a new PC (you get 3 downloads)

I've been avoiding dealing with them over it.

I'm running the PiMPx on my 351W. I believe it was well worth the extra money to purchase the MS upgrade for TunerStudio. Considering the amount of times that you will be using the program and how long you will probably be running the ECU, the cost is neligible compared to what you have into everything else. Learning to decipher what are causing issues through TunerStudio is a must. You can find a lot of helpful information on many forums, but it still comes down to having the right tools to do the job. I don't understand why Stinger and Wes don't like when people change their fuel tables to match their NA builds. They say it isn't necessary, but it isn't unnecessary either. My tables all max out at 100. I find it to be less confusing.

I did end up buying the tuner pro for like $75 maybe? I have an old work colleague that has helped out some when I get stumped. He builds custom tunes for people. It’s nice being to just send a quick data log and he tells me what to change. That’s the area I need to definitely improve on, reading the data logs. I read a lot of forums on tweaking different things. I was surprised how many Miata guys use MS. The ecu is set up with a base h/c/i mustang 302. I revamped the AFR table and ve table. I haven’t touched timing advance, but I don’t have any issues running 87 octane. Its setup base is 18 degrees. It’s a learning curve for sure but I’m enjoying it. I like that if I boost it or swap a 351 I’m good either way.
