gear indicator cable help

In the process of removing my instrument cluster to replace the LCD odometer screen I seem to have messed up the gear indicator cable for my auto trans. I have two questions: Do have the plastic bracket installed correctly and does this fix require a whole new cable or can this one be repaired?

Should the cable run on top or below the steering column? I know I took it apart but I suffer from CRS and don’t recall

That is the correct orientation. The cable does go under the column. I'd say you need a new cable.
