Has anyone ever tried to do an inframe on a 7.5L? I'm hoping I can pull pistons out the bottom. I just want to do rings for now. I'm using 1 quart of oil every 100 miles. I just can't afford to rebuilt it right now. I'm guessing it would be easier to just yank the motor and work on it on a stand.
The pistons and rods will not come out the bottom
Sure, you can do a partial rebuild "in frame": but the pistons and rods have to come out the top
Pretty hard to get the rear pistons back in there
It can be done
Thanks. I wasn't thinking. Even if I could pull them from the bottom, how am I going to get them back in. I have a newer (96) 460 that I should just tear it down and rebuild it as I can afford it. It has a rebuilt E4OD with it, should be a little better on gas than the C6.
If you are using that much oil and not leaking it, you are going to need way more than rings; you need a rebuild.
There is no way around it, it has to come out and sent to a machine shop to be bored, new pistons and rings and all the other stuff

The wierd thing is, I don't know where it's going. It doesn't leak much, if it leaked that much the whole bottom would be covered. It doesn't smoke either at start or going down the road. I would think I'd be able to see it. I have 2 plugs that foul up pretty quick so I assume tthey are burning oil.
