Roof rack gaskets

I have a 2005 2WD Eddie Bauer edition Expedition. The roof really needs a paint job and to do it properly I would like to remove the roof rack but I can’t even find a part number for the gasket or seal underneath the rack. From what I can see the plastic or rubber under the rack is very dried out and cracked. I have looked on Ford Parts Giant, the Ford parts website, ebay and some others. Is there another parts source out there that people with older vehicles use or should I resign myself to taking the roof rack off as carefully as possible and re-installing it with the remnants of the old gaskets after the roof is painted with some liberal use of an RTV type of sealant?

Yes- RTV is the best but I will add, build your own gasket and glue it on with the RTV- you can buy material from felpro.. their tech department will also make good recommendations for you.
