So… 2024 6.7 HO, 3500 miles
Went in for a small once a day oil drip. Just got a call from the dealer that they are ordering me a new engine!
Service advisor told me the Oil galley plug (on left side I believe) was Cross threaded from the factory and causing the little leak that I had. Can’t they rethread and insert a new plug? i’m just not understanding how a cross threaded oil galley plug that is causing a small drip requires an entire engine replacement.
No loaners available, they are on a 3 month wait list, I use my truck for work and now I’m 🤬🤬🤬
Only option is to go rent one for the next 3 weeks or so at $600 a week.
Ford (indeed most OEMs) do not permit reworking hard components under warranty. So while rethreading and putting a new plug in might be a typical way to fix it, doing it RIGHT requires at least a partial engine teardown to prevent chips from getting into the oil passages and potentially causing a blockage or damaging a bearing. Because of this, it's cheaper for Ford to put a new engine in your truck, then take that motor and rework it, and sell it to someone else as a Ford Remanufactured engine.

WTH
Given that this is a factory defect, they should cover the rental.
Update-
I called Ford Customer relations. After being on the phone with them for about 45 minutes, they will only cover $60 per day on a ford rental. I’m on the hook for the additional $40.
I was able to get notes from the tech. Since this is a LTIS (low time in service) issue with 3700 miles, does Ford supply a crate engine or remanufactured one? I tried calling the dealership up but the service advisor was busy.
Will they let you keep driving it until the new block comes in? The leaking plug sure won't fall out and you'd still have your truck to use in the meantime.
If I was you . I wouldn't want a new engine in my truck .Tell them to keep the truck and you want a new Truck
!!!!How many people agree with that on this forums?
And also if it is crossed threaded. And that part is installed by a person the person that installed it knew that it was crossedThreaded . When you use an impact gun or Ratchet you could tell the difference !

Sounds familiar. $60 per day is what Ford gives you when you pay extra for the enhanced rental option of the ESP PremiumCare. Hopefully they didn't limit it to ten days only.
Perhaps you could work out a sensible solultion with the service manager: Use the truck until the day of scheduled service. Depending on the relationship, the dealer may want some type of deposit to make certain you show up when the repacement parts arrive so the dealer isn't stuck with them.

no. Advisor told me some parts were taken off and truck must remain at dealership

here is the email from ford.
looks like there isn’t a limit.
“you can rent your own vehicle at $60.00 a day it has to be a Ford vehicle. Once the vehicle is repaired you will submit your final rental receipt to the dealership for reimbursement.
