ZF5 Noise PLEASE HELP
ZF5 Noise PLEASE HELP
Yesterday, I heard a screeching noise while pulling into the grocery store parking lot. Visited Dr. Google with my symptoms and came down to the throwout or release bearing. I have been having trouble with getting her in gear lately and wasn't sure what the issue was. Slight rattle noise without clutch engaged, neutral and in gear, and screeching happens when clutch is engaged. I have no experience with transmissions and am willing to do the work myself.
Where do I start and what do I need?

Check how your transmission and transfer case mount, and if there is enough room behind the transfer case to simply move it and the transmission as a unit back away from the engine.
Check to see if your exhaust is in the way.
So the trick here is to disconnect everything and move the trans/TC out of the way without having to take the TC out and drop the transmission.
Sometimes you can get a floor jack under in such a way as to use it support and then roll the transmission/TC back.
Otherwise you can use a dolly or two along with blocking to hold it in position.
You also need to support the engine during all this.
Once that's out of the way, you simply unbolt the pressure plate, replace that and clutch disc, and the throwout bearing itself along with the pilot bearing.
Others here who have done this on this particular truck may way in.
You are in the engine forum. I think you will have more luck in the truck forum. Let me know and I'll move the thread.
Take your time to visualize the process and make sure all the wires, shifter, and anything else is disconnected from the trans and TC.

What is recommended for me to replace?
If your on the stock clutch with is a dual mass, upgrading the clutch/flywheel while it's out is your best bet LUK has a nice kit. And while in there add some bellow up pipes if you haven't already.

I found some up pipes on Rudy’s and riffraff. Any other recommendations?
I put my LUK kit in 2007, almost 200,000 miles on it, mostly towing heavy. I have changed the throw out bearing 2 times.
My truck had an unknown mile Luk unit in it when I built my trans, the SMF and 13" Luk is a great DD combo that will take appears 325-350rwhp. I have not seen anyone use it with larger than 160/0s
