Time to upgrade the F-150. Looking at a F-250 platinum with 7.3 and FX4.
the other one is an F-350 platinum 7.3 without FX4. My co cars is that the F-250 has the 10R100. I believe all F-350s have the 10R140. Is this correct?
Not sure what transmission pairings the gas engines have, but this is what the 7.3 engine option shows when building a truck on Ford's website:
So looks like either transmission is available on the F-250 platinum. Probably determined by if it has the high capacity axle upgrade or not. Would need to see the full build sheet/window sticker on the truck. F-350 guarantees you get the heavier unit and a little more payload.
FX4 is basically going to get you some skid plates, hill decent control, and different shock valving. The stock shocks aren't really great either way.
I rarely tow, but when I do it is up in the mountains and the 10R80 is not liking it. I think the 4.30 would ruin the mpg more.
As mentioned, the FX4 package is nothing, especially when 90% of your travel is highway.
Do not use miles per gallon in a relationship with a super duty especially when coming from an F-150. Most people buy a super duty because they need a truck for a purpose, mileage isn't the first consideration. Not to be dismissed but don't be surprised or expecting good results.

All 2025 7.3 F-250s come with the 10R100 except for the Tremor. All Tremors and all F-350s come with the 10R140.
4.30s with the three overdrive gears of these 10 speeds for towing and mountain driving is a great combo.
3.73s will only give slightly better mpg driving empty at higher speeds.

Totally agree. F-350 7.3L 4.30 DRW is about as good as it is gonna get in a new stock gas pickup tow vehicle nowadays, especially if you need payload.
Worrying about gas mileage with the F-350 and a 7.3 is useless IMHO, it's the wrong truck. F-150 would be a much better choice if mpg is more important than payload and towing ability in a gas pickup.

The F350. More payload wins. 4x4 vs FX4 isn't a big deal if you're mostly on road.
Get the F350. The FX4 package is a gimmick and waste of money. You’ll never need the cheap skid plate, and you can buy a $20 FX4 sticker on eBay for you bedside if you really want the look.
