Maaco??

USAA insurance is paying me $1,530 for this 'little' damage. I'll do the work myself instead of paying a body shop that much. The place USAA insurance sent me too the manager said just take it to Maaco for a complete paint job. He said he worked for them for 13 years and they do a good job. He also said they can do a paint job with a clear coat like the factory or mix the clear coat in with the paint. I don't know much about painting but the original paint job is still in fair shape. I don't know what to do, I can still clean and wax it and it looks pretty good. Any suggestions? Thanks

PS, tomorrow I get the o-rings from Clay so will get that oil leak fixed finally. No leaks on the new WP install so far!

Hard to say Glenn. Maaco seems to be hit and miss as some are good, some not so much. Blending in 30 year old paint so it looks uniform is the trick. How much of that is paint damage to your truck versus paint from the other guy?

I just got the estimate from Maaco, $5,458 so with my payment of $1,530 it will cost me 4K if I let Maaco paint it. I'm tempted! Ben, the white paint is from the car that backed into me, I haven't tried to see if it will rub off or not.

for just that panel is about 5 grand too much.

Not sure Ben, I didn't drive it 150 miles to Vegas to get the estimate, I just sent them pictures.

Tom, the guy who backed into me insurance company is paying $1530 for just the fender so I figure its a 4 grand paint job if I keep the money and use it for Maaco. There is a guy here in town who had his OBS painted and it turned out beautiful so like said, its a hit and miss deal probably. Not sure what I'm going to do, maybe forget the whole thing.

I know from pals that if you do more prep, the better the job will be...pull trim, lights, mirrors, rubber outer seals, etc

Worst will be trying to paint around the rear glass if not pulled (and sides if extended cab)

Local guy just had his '89 300SE done for $4400. Base and clear, PPG products. Looks nice

I would try some polishing and what not on the fender and see what damage was done then decide what to do
