Has anyone had ABS brake issues on their EXP's. Mine is at low speeds, near complete stop. I get a brake actuation, that is basically hydraulicing the brake pedal back at me along with a buzzzz as you hear it actuating for about 2-3 seconds. It's sort of like losing braking momentarily. I've tended to compensate for it and ignor it. I'm not getting and indicator light, and it seems to be more prominent in cold, damp weather conditions, it didn't occur all spring or summer. I had it into my dealership, to check the ABS sensors, but they said without getting the ABS light there would be no code for it. I told them to hook it up anyways. When I went back they tried to tell me my FDS caliper was seized and that was setting it off....NOT! there is nothing wrong with my brakes, and they never did check the sensors I paid them to. I spoke with the QC guy there, but never took it back to them, plus like I said it had disappeared for like 6-8 months. Now it's back, and my concern is stopping in traffic in winter conditions. Any one HAD to replace ABS sensors for false activations, or any quick fixes, like unplugging the whole damn thing?? Thanks.
I have a 95 that was doing exactly the same thing. Since I was lazy at the time and didn't want to take the sensors out I simply unplugged the connection next to the ABS solenoids in the engine bay. This deactivates the ABS so you are driving on "regular" brakes, and lights up the dash idiot light. I have read in other forums that it is either the sensors or the trigger wheel that causes this. After it warms up I am going to take a look at it. Good Luck...
I am having this same problem on my 98 Explorer (4.0L SOHC/4WD). I took it to the dealership and they told me my front ABS sensors are bad and it will cost me $900 to have them replaced. I have been told by a friend to just disconnect the ABS. However, I don't know whether or not that will cause other problems.
Yes, its the sensors, same thing happened with mine... after paying $500 to have the rotors and brakes replaced. It cost me $611 (Canadian) and that included bearings (I think) to have both front wheel sensors replaced. Suggest checking with a Ford dealer, see if they have a book price.
Good luck.
