We bought a 2020 F-150 5.0 in July, about 2 weeks after buying it, it started making this noise. It ONLY happens when the truck has been sitting overnight or 8 hours or so. We back out of our driveway, put it in drive and it makes this whipping or spinning metal noise until it shifts into 2nd or 3rd gear. After it warms up, it doesn't do it anymore. We have had 2 Ford dealers now look at it, the first one said it is normal and the second told us it was a heat shield that was missing a bolt. It still makes the noise. I get the feeling that nobody wants to deal with it or don't really know what it is? Has anyone had this problem? I recorded the noise on my phone, it's a 27 second video, however it is too big of a file to post. Any ideas of what it could be?
I still haven't read that there's a fix for the 17-20 10R80s. One of the worst automatic transmissions IMHO. I'll probably have second thoughts if I ever consider a or Chevy truck with that transmission. 🤔
Well. sounds like the Dealers letting tire boy drive it? Find a respected independent shop imo. Good luck, been around here many years, this is a first for the sound you described.
