Identifying Ca vs Fed ecu

Hey guys,

I’ve been having trouble with my truck running when the SPOUT connector is plugged in. I pulled the ECU to check it and it looks good, but according to chat GPT the truck is a Ca truck and the ECU is a fed truck. Is there any way to confirm this? Wondering if someone replaced it with the wrong one and then just left the spout connector removed because they couldn’t figure it out (spout was removed when I got the truck).

The outside of the ECU ends in -ATA which according to chat gpt is fed spec but circuit board inside ends in -ca which is supposedly CA spec.

could this be the issue with my truck?

How about you start by telling us what your truck is?

Some info on Calibration Code 0-98A-R10: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post20966188

TLDR.....the PCM number you are looking for is F0TF-12A650-ATA which has Federal emission programming.

The -CA alphanumeric on the circuit board does no imply it is a California emission PCM.

Please further define your symptom statement: "I’ve been having trouble with my truck running when the SPOUT connector is plugged in."

so it’s a 1991 F250 with a 7.5 in it. Without the spout connector installed it seems to run ok but when I plug in the spout connector it struggles to run, it will loap like it’s running on just a couple cylinders.

The photos of the computer look good to me. But looks can be deceiving. Have you recently run the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) codes and Stored Code display to see if anything is flagged? You can have stored codes without a Check Engine Light (CEL).
