Haven't driven my 66 in a few months while I was in the process of rewiring it.
I did crank it up about a month ago and everything seemed fine.
Today after placing some carpeting and replacing the seat I cranked her up and upon acceleration the engine sputters and "coughs" and won't reach full throttle without dying.
I plan on replacing plugs etc. but any advice is greatly appreciated.
Another member just mentioned sputtering with their truck. On the off chance it's the same thing - air filter in that case. But there can be a few reasons for it. Clogged fuel filter after sitting sediment can restrict flow. Weak fuel pump - diaphragm could be going bad. Stale fuel or varnish. If still using a points system worn points or incorrect gap, weak coil, loose or corroded plug wires, distributor cap/rotor wear or carbon tracking. Stuck mechanical advance weights or vacuum advance not functioning. Grounding issues from recent rewire. Clogged muffler or collapsed baffle. Just some quick ideas.
A bad condenser will often idle, but miss under load or high RPM. Condensers now days are hit and miss as you can sometimes have a bad one new rite out of the box
With today's gas that evaporates and boils off easily I would say your carb needs to be cleaned. For my truck if it sits for a week it takes 15-30 seconds of cranking before fuel gets to the carb. Now if it sits, I fill the cab thru the vents before cranking. Works every time.
