anti lock brake question

the anti lock light is on in my dash. does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this. it does not seem to hamper the driving of the truck. it is a 1988 F250 4X4 long bed.

It should mean there is a problem in the anti-lock system. There is test connector by the brake pedal that when grounded eill flash a code. That code will indicate the problem. You will need a manual to show where the connector, what the codes mean, and how to check faulty components.

Good Luck

I had one come on after excessive build up on the AB sensor on the rear wheel. Cleaned off the sensor and the light went out.

I don't know the technical names for the components. There is a cylindrical sensor that picks up on the proximity of a slotted ring that rotates as the tires rotate. As this ring rotates with the wheel, the sensor transmits the wheel speed by sending an electrical pulse for every slot on the ring. The number of pulses over time equates to the tire speed. There was all this gunk built up on the sensor and between the slots on the rotating part. I thought maybe the metalic dust from the pads/rotor was interfering with the sensor. I wiped it clean. Sprayed brake cleaner on the ring and wiped it down well. Light went out. It has been out and brakes working fine for over a month. Maybe this was a fluke but it worked.
