I was debating about flat bedding or re bedding but I’m busy with work and my stainless flatbed idea with body line side panels was about $1600 in materials so I went with an available bed from FB marketplace. A close color match and $1700 with tailgate.
i was planning on taking out the 5th wheel frame until I saw what I was working with. I flew down to North Carolina 19 years ago to get this truck, it still had factory finish on the frame. Vermont is rough on trucks even with oil undercoat.
This is pre finish, but after cut/wax the bed shines like new.
It’s a bit more green than blue/green must have been from an earlier model year. I still need to de chrome trim the cab, I did the old bed but even with a heat gun and plastic putty knife I still lifted a bit of clear coat. Any tips on that removal?
(btw TACO is not a trump thing, it’s the name of my farm)
the color match is close to not be noticed at 50 MPH.
looks good!
Haha! Correct!
Im just in from trying to de chrome the cab, passenger side first so I wouldn’t have to look at any mistakes. Sure enough the short fender strip came off great, but the door lifted clear AND paint which is a real pisser. I’m going to try without the heat gun because maybe it’s softening the paint? I have one of those 3M erasers which work great in the adhesive.
I remembered something I saw about using wire so I tried it with just a little heat. With the exception of that spot on the front of the door, the lifting decreases significantly. Is there a body guy who could tell me how to repair what’s done? I really just want to keep it from flaking more so should I just feather it back a bit and get a can of base coat then top with some of Eastwoods 2K clear?
