If i press the brake while the truck is running, I can't shift out of park. I have to shut the truck off, switch to neutral, and then start the truck, then shift to drive. Where is this switch and how can I bypass it? Or if it's easy enough to replace, that.
My standard starting procedure is get in, brake, turn key to ACC, shift to neutral, go to run, glow plugs prime, when glow plug light goes out, start, then shift to drive and go. I don't like to shut off the truck for short trips, like the feed store or beer store but if i shift to park, i'm stuck until i shut it off and shift to neutral again.
You don't have an issue with the park brake switch, you have an issue with the brake shift interlock (BSI), a safety device that is there to prevent accidentally shifting our of park (Hey, I left my dog in the truck and then it rolled down the hill!).
The BSI is triggered by on half of the brake pedal position switch (not the half that operates the lights).
Fixed it. It was the brake pedal switch on the pedal. $30 and about 10 minutes.
Glad you got it fixed. Just curious, I don't have to put my foot on the brake while starting. I have a V10, 2002. Sounds like you have to put your foot on the brake to start yours.

No, his problem was that he could not get the shift lever out of PARK after the ignition switch was in the RUN position (engine started). He put his foot on the brake as a common sense step to keep the truck from rolling or just out of habit.
He was using the interlock bypass procedure (more or less) in the owner's manual. Yours is the same.
I grew up with manual transmissions, cluch and brake to start. Now with automatic, i always hit the brake before starting the vehicle, no matter what I'm in. I don't have to in the truck, but i would feel weird not doing it.
