steel 17s I want to say are usually thinner than an aftermarket aluminum wheel
and yeah I will tell you it could be just enough to cause an issue but I’m not 100% sure
I know my 18” methods don’t leave a ton of clearance to start so it would be a close call to go 17s but I think it’s possible. Might literally come down to where your wheel weight get placed when balanced
