For the last 30 minutes I have been removing spyware from my one and only windows machine. Most spyware can be taken out by simple use of Spybot, these stupid pop-ups would not be. So I had the fun time of searching through all the processes running and so on to find and weed out this program. What I want to know is what do these people have to gain?
If it wasn't for fourms on the internet that are available by a simple search (and a program called Hijackthis) I wouldn't of been able to find my solution and I promtly would of gone insane and ran over my computer. I think this should be consitered a crime. I would love to see these people go down. Spyware
I get so frustrated with the rubbish that companies throw at you on the internet. It certainly should be a criminal offence, with realistic penalty, and international policing. But, that will never happen, in this uncooperative world.
Along with Spybot, you should also consider running AdAware. It does the same thing as Spybot, but it may find things that Spybot missed, and vice versa. After the spyware is eliminated, you may want to reduce the number of annoying popups by finding their IP addys and then putting the addys into your firewall. You can find the addys for such fine popups as "Worlds Largest Casino" by visiting http://ww2.arin.net/whois/.
As always, when you get some free software you should carefully read the user agreement. Some are at least honest enough to tell you that you'll be installing things like Gator or WebHancer. Free software is where the majority of this crap comes from.
I've been meaning to do this for a while. I installed a wireless router to use as a firewall and installed 'pop-up blocker' to eliminate pop-up ads. So far, they work fine.
Yesterday, I downloaded the free Spybot and ran it. It identified 54 files but in order to have them removed by the software, you have to register and pay $20.
I then downloaded the Ad-Aware free version and ran it. It identified 194 files and gave you the option to quarantine the files. I did that and hopefully will not have any more spyware.

With Spybot Search & Destroy, the program is totally free. You do not have to register and pay $20.00 to have a fully functional version of the software. The creator of the program will accept donations, but those donations are not required to have the software work. You have downloaded a commercial version that has a similar name to Spybot Search and Destroy. If you want the original FREE version, click on the link below that will take you to the free version on Download.com. AdAware is a good program when used with Spybot Search and Destroy, but it will not remove all spyware/malware on its own. I run both programs on my machines (first run Spybot S&D, then AdAware) and have been pleased with the results.
