I'm thinking about trading in my current F250 and buying an F350 with a 7.3 and 4.30s. I've been looking/building trucks and I am seeing the STX is a about $1k less msrp than an XLT when I build them on Ford. It seems like an STX is a better deal. The only advantage I can see is the XLT comes with 8 way adjustable seat(s)?. Is there any reason to go with an XLT (without premium package) over an STX?
My opinion the XLT is a nicer truck to live with on a daily basis. Very subjective though, it's what you like.
I drive my truck around 3k miles a year. As much as I'd like a Lariat I prefer the XL or STX price point. I also want cloth seats hence why I am looking at an STX.
It all depends on the level of creature comforts you enjoy. The STX gets you a lot of the tech upgrades, the XLT comes with more amenities, but you have to add the Premium package to get the LED headlights.
I came from a Ram 2500 Bighorn that had heated seats/wheel, auto dual-zone climate, etc. etc., to get those options in a Ford I had to step up to a Lariat. I'm in my truck a LOT for work, especially in the winter, so I WANTED those options.
I have a 2023 STX, and I'm very pleased with it... minus the forced 4WD we had to take back then. I know it doesn't sound like much, but the LED's are head and shoulders over the halogens... and are nearly worth the price of admission right there.
Also... understand that all that 'technology' stuff is simply more stuff to go wrong. I get all sorts of errors from the sensors, my pickup bed camera comes and goes, I've had to disable some of the 'safety' stuff (I don't need the brakes slamming on when I'm trying to back my truck up, for example.) I really like the cab, and the 40/20/40 bench (I don't like consoles.)
To be completely honest, our 2025 is an XL, and is just as nice... just without all the clever tech stuff. It was also 2WD, and saved us over $10K over the STX.

I think for 26 the STX pacakge is simpler and a lot of the mandatory eletronics for 23-25 are now separate items. Is it worth $3115? Don't know, but it is required to get the 7.3 in XL trim. :/

Actually, it is. I would happily have bought that STX package... and left all the electronic crap on the counter.
The key items in the STX package... and well worth the $3100... are the alloy 18" wheels, the LED lights all around, and, of course, the 445ci V-8. It still looks like they force you into 4x4 to get the STX package.... for some stupid reason.

Credit where it is due, seems like Ford listened to customers like me complaining the bloated STX of 23-25 and made the extra tech optional before you can add 7.3. Not ideal since before 23 you can have a bare bones 2wd 7.3 with 10R40 for just over 42k, but it is what it is and an improvement if nothing else. I'm calling around now see which remaining dealer in my area know how to work with PCO and x plan.
The STX package ends up being $3300 (msrp) more than an XL. I would prefer the 7.3 and 10r140 over the 6.8 and 10r100. I currently drive an STX so I'd be happy staying with the same. I only see minor differences between an XL and XLT which is another $1k msrp price difference. If I step up to an XLT with premium package I'm looking at $5k difference between an STX.

That's the plan. The only thing I don't like about the STX package is I'm forced to go with carpet instead of vinyl floors. Also, I prefer chrome over painted bumpers even though I think painted look better.
