This is my first post and I've got a question for you all. I am currently driving a '93 V8 5.0L F150. About 2 months back, all of my dash lights went out. I've checked every fuse in the truck and they are all fine. I've also had dash apart and changed every one of the bulbs. Is there something simple that i'm missing? I can't get these things to go on at all. Any help that you might be able to provide would be appreciated.
If the dashlight dimmer switch is malfunctioning, this would cause all the lights in the dash to go out. this is an integral part of the headlight switch.
Hope that helps.
I appreciate the help guys. Does anyone have any idea what one should be paying for one of these headlight switches? I live in Ontario, Canada by the way. If someone could get back to me that would be great.
Give UAP/NAPA, Canadian Tire, maybe Tru Value or others a call for pricing for OEM replacement (cheaper) or your local Ford dealer and ask for Parts Dept. for quotes I never needed one so I don't know the price. It is probably between $25 to $75 cdn But I am guessing.
ok so i've torn it all apart again and replaced the switch and wiring harness for the switch and that still hasn't fixed it. How involved is taking off the instruments themselves to see some of the wiring in behind? what about this transmission indicator cable? Anyone who has done this and may have some words of wisdom before i tackle it would be great.
I would inspect the printed circuit sheet on the back of the instrument cluster. You should be able to follow a trace from one of the lights that comes on with the lights, see where that trace contacts the wire harness plug and see if you get any power on the plug with the instrument cluster out. That would tell you if it is a problem on the cluster or a problem with the wire harness. Sometimes those plugs can be hard to get pushed back into the cluster and snap into place.
Most Instrument cluster printed circuit board solder connections loosens or pop out over time. Check for loose solder and resolder them and if you find some capacitors that has a dried up crud on it then that means the capacitor is leaking the electrolyte and needs replacement which is not difficult either.
